Nazaret is a large town of about 1000 inhabitants located in the center of the island of Lanzarote, the town is part of the municipality of Teguise.
The main tourist attraction is quite a spectacular villa built in an old quarry. Egyptian actor Omar Sharif would have owned it for only a few days in 1972; the villa is however still called "House of Omar Sharif" or Lagomar.
The town was established in the 18th century by populations displaced to the southwest of the island, whose villages had been destroyed by volcanic eruptions 1730-1736; the town of Nazareth is first mentioned on a 1741 map by military engineer Antonio Riviere. The town has been created around the Hermitage of Our Lady of Nazareth.
